Pond Inspired Ceramics

Hi, my name is An, and I am an artist. If you were wondering... my name is pronounced like "Ann" in handmade.

I make my ceramics out of a messy chaotic garage studio—not fancy, just a small corner space where each piece is shaped slowly and intentionally, with a focus on form, function, and joy. And yes, I have a small but mighty kiln.

A lot of my work is inspired by ponds. I’m drawn to the soft movement of water, the ecosystems they contain, and the small creatures they house. Ponds feel grounding in a way that’s hard to explain—they hold stillness, but also motion, and such wonderful creatures. And there’s something about that settles me, something I keep coming back to.

In a way, ceramics feels part of a similar system. Clay can hold water, change forms, carry minerals, and transforms for life or function. I hope my pieces reflect that relationship in a grounded, slow, and a whimsical way.
